I need to know how to bypass Win XP Administrator password without have to reformating the entire computer. I already try using the start-up in Safe-Mode and also by using Win XP repair option from Win XP Boot CD, nothing worked.
After 5 years, decided to finally restore my computer and start over. Now I get no sound. Appears that the computer doesn’t think I have an audio device installed. I have an HP Pavilion, Win XP, and the audio is the integrated Realtek AC97.
If I go to Sounds and Audio Devices in the control panel, it says ‘No Audio Device.’ It is enabled in the BIOS, and I have downloaded the latest driver. In the device manager, it appears everything is working properly, no yellow exclamation marks or red ‘X’ s.
I do get the generic ‘beep’ on occasion from the computer. The one from the internal speaker on the motherboard … but nothing else. Media Player says “Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.” So I know we have a problem.
Any suggestions?
Found an updated driver from Realtek, but that didn’t solve the problem. If I go to the control panel, Sounds …, everything is greyed out that deals with audio. So the computer doesn’t even know I have have an integrated sound card. Maybe there is something in the registry, maybe the bios (updated that too). Any other suggestions?
My wifes computer will not boot into windows xp for some reason but unfortunately everything is written in simplified chinese. I live in Lincoln UK and I dont know where I can get a Chinese version of windows xp
i have a Laptop from ebay that has windows 2000 professional, and i know that is really old. I have a mini Laptop that is newer though. I was thinking of getting xp so i could use the larger screen on the older Laptop and for family use too. I believe xp goes for $89-120, would it have to be referbished to accomadate the newer version? Ill return it if i have to pay more than the xp upgrade if i can. any suggestions?
it is in working condition.. just a old model.
Background: Running Windows XP service pack 2 on a 3GHz Pentium 4 PC which is about 4 1/2 years old.
I was getting a bit frustrated with the computer running slowly so I decided to run an error check and let it fix any hard drive errors, so selected Error check from the properties menu of my C: drive and told it to run an error check.
I restarted the PC as it told me to and it started chkdsk on reboot. It completes sections 1,2,3 of the chkdisk (File Verification, index verification and security descriptor verification).
However, it keeps completely hanging on verifying file data (stage 4) – first time at 42% and second time at 6% (I left it for at least 8 hours each time once it stopped moving just in case it was hanging).
If I restart it it just runs chkdsk again and hangs again. How do I stop it doing this and is then anything I can do to rescue the situation?
Thanks very much in advance (this question is being posted from a friend’s PC)
Thanks lol – however I can’t do that. It is not reaching Windows startup – i.e. I can’t access the start menu etc – it just runs chkdsk during the boot sequence…
Want to copy files from my old windows xp machine to my new vista machine. What’s the best way to back files to a new PC with Vista?
I’m having a problem with Windows XP recognizing my SATA drive when attempting a new install. I previously had this crap software called Vista running on it, and want to go back to XP. But when going through the installation process, windows xp does not recognize the drive. I have read other questions on this topic but I do not have a floppy, USB or other, to resolve this way. Shouldn’t there be an easier way?
want to know when upgrading, will xp pro automatically detect my device drivers, no need for me to install manually? i am using a sony vaio Laptop pentium 2. this was pre-loaded with win98 when i bought it.
I put together a assemble-your-own PC and installed WIn XP on it. Everything worked out fine except for one thing….XP did not detect the modem. I tried installing the driver and still XP was not able to detect it. I formatted the HD and reinstall XP and still the modem was not detected.
I then tried a work-around by pulling out the modem and reinstalled XP then slot the modem in. When I turned the PC on it detected the modem and requested for the driver to be installed.
I had the problem solved BUT what I dont understand is, why was XP not able to detect the modem earlier? Was it because I slot in the modem before installing XP?
