How to upgrade to windows xp from a windows 2000 professional?

windows xp

i have a Laptop from ebay that has windows 2000 professional, and i know that is really old. I have a mini Laptop that is newer though. I was thinking of getting xp so i could use the larger screen on the older Laptop and for family use too. I believe xp goes for $89-120, would it have to be referbished to accomadate the newer version? Ill return it if i have to pay more than the xp upgrade if i can. any suggestions?
it is in working condition.. just a old model.

Microsoft has system requirements for Windows XP on their web site. If your Laptop is a Pentium III or less don’t bother. Also you should have at least 256MB of RAM to have any chance of it running okay.
