REALLY need HELP! Can’t see webpages Can’t research problem. Dell 3000 win xp is it a virus or registry error?

win xp problems

I’m a novice so if you have suggestions, Please make it easy to understand! And this site is my ONLY HOPE! It’s the ONLY one I can SEE! **** When I browse to most websites, forums, threads, etc., it’s mostly blank space on the pages!?
EQUIPMENT: Dell Dimension 3000 & win XP. Browse with IE7, Opera, Firefox & occasionally Maxthon. Firefox has the least errors for me with this problem. **** Here’s what I think I was doing before the problem started:
I upgraded to IE7
Upgraded to Firefox 3
Installed winxp sp2
Ran many many scans for viruses & trojans.
Ran CCleaner & deleted everything it found in the registry, etc..

Since that day, I began to get BIG Blank spaces on threads, forums, just about every web page I try to view! I will get a few words, but there’s gobs of empty space! I am able to get the permanent pages headers & stuff like the framework of the page, some ads & stuff. I’m so confused! <<< When I highlight the blank paragraphs on those pages, it's still blank inside the highlight, but when I paste it to NotePad, it shows up! ? ><>>> I get some sites almost complete: Yahoo mail & Answers, eBay; and my resident programs work perfectly. **** It’s just internet pages that are affected.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Adjusted my Page View in my browser to Basic or Classic,
I have re-downloaded Microsoft .NET framework 3.0 per one poster’s suggestion–not sure I acutally reinstalled it correctly or whatever, but don’t know how to check.
I have just RESET my IE7 settings in Tools / Advanced.

(BTW, my cdrom drive is broken & I have no floppy drive, so I can’t reboot or reinstall windows xp). HHEEELLLP! I’m crippled here!

topdn–feels good to be all cleaned out, but no luck–problem persists. feel free to suggest more things if you can think of anything! Tks!

Win XP home installation error: “Setup cannot find harddrive”?

Sunday 23 April 2006 @ 1:32 pm
win xp installation

Hello,
I’ve got this Dell XPS M1330 and it came pre installed with Vista. After finding myself in a battle with the newest Microsoft OS i gave up and wanted to downgrade back to XP Home.

Usually, when entering the XP Disc into the drive, the installation works smoothly but this time it claimed that it couldnt find my HD.

This was the error message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3.

The strange part is when I replaced the XP Home CD with the Vista one it worked fine and I was able to re-install Vista.

Why won’t this work with the XP CD?

After re-installing a fresh copy of Vista, the problems didnt end. I kept getting Windows Errors etc. I really wonder what the problem might be
… can it be that there is a problem with my Harddrive? It cant be that after installing Vista from scratch, with formating the whole drive that it gives me Windows Explorer errors right from the beginning.

Now I am writing this article using Ubuntu (which isnt bad but i prefer XP Home) as its the only OS that currently works normally.

Just to add my Computer specs:
XPS M1330
———————————-
- Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz
- 4GB RAM
- 200 GB (7.2k) Harddrive (without any partition, raid or such kind)
———————————-

What can I do to finally have XP Home/Pro on my System working fine as back in the old days?

Many thanks to anyone who can help!

Nick

no sound after setting up dell pc with win xp?

Sunday 23 April 2006 @ 9:44 am
win xp drivers

2 days ago i had to set up m pc and reinstall win xp. after i installed all the drivers i found out there is no sound. it won’t find any sound card or other audio device. i tried to go to the dell website and find the matching driver, but i cant find the model/make of the sound card. i tried another program which lists every device of the pc.. still, nothing.
is the sound card broken? is it possible, that a cable (after carefully dusting the inside of the pc) has become loose? please suggest what else i could try!
my dell is a dimension 4600
…and the solution with the realtek ac97 unfortunately didn’t work

Easiest way to copy files and then change OS from Win.XP to Mac’s Ubuntu?

Saturday 22 April 2006 @ 2:47 am
win xp

I am currently running Win XP. Well, there’s may layers of it on my PC (I didn’t do that myself, don’t ask why the person did). I have many graphics programs installed, and more images of my art tahn you could shake a mouse at. I prefer to use Ubuntu (Linux type of OS) instead, as it runs smoother and thakes way less memory than XP - not to mention the added benefit of having 1 OS and that’s it. What files can I copy to CD to reinstall after the OS change, what’s the best way to do this, and *can I* copy installed progs to reinstall after? These are progs I no longer have the original disk for, the cd spindle was lost when we moved. Help?
