Put windows xp cd in

restart the computer

press f2 for setup

tab over to boot menu

i have to change the order of drives by moving the cd/DVD Drive so its first on the list so it will boot from cd..

press f10 for save and exit

computer restarts and gets to the “press any key to boot from disk”

so i pressed any key

and the words “setup is inspecting computers hardware configuration” flashed really fast

first thing before files start to load, it flashes at bottom

-press “f6″ if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver

-press “f2″ to run an Automated System Recovery

and then

at bottom of the screen u can see all kinds of drivers and controllers and etc. loading

i pressed “enter”… and after the following error message i tried pressing “R” and got the same message

after pressing “enter” it says:

configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press “f3″

Then computer restarts

verizon DSL is not working. It seems that TCP IP driver issue in my computer. I am runnin gWin XP professional.

I want to start using Ubuntu but I don’t necessarily want to get rid of windows XP. Is there a way that I can use Ubuntu but keep Windows XP on my computer?

and where can i get win xp drivers my Laptop no xp drivers in compaq site pls dont tell me check hardware tell me the perfect site where i can download the all drivers for winxp.

I’m not really sure what brand some of my components are or where to search for the drivers.(my comp came with vista pre installed) Is there a program that could tell me the brand and type of my components?

I have here a Dell Inspiron 6000 and a Sony DW-D56A.It reads DVD disks in Windows but not CD’s. The drive boots from CD and can read them fine in DOS. There is no conflict or error code (i.e code 39).
I have installed the drive in another Laptop and it works fine. I have also tried known good working drives in the Dell and they are suffering from the exact same problem. This has to be a software issue as I have proved conclusively that the hardware is fine.
The Laptop is running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2.
I have deleted the drive and re-installed it. The problem is not a firmware issue as the 2 other drives acted the same way.
Please, anyone know what is going on here? I am an experienced Laptop technician and have never come across this fault before!

I am getting a Laptop that has a fresh install of Win 98 but I won’t have the disk. I have a copy of Win XP that came with my desktop computer. Is it possible to install XP on the Laptop?

It has plenty of RAM and disk space.

I have this big problem on my pc. I want to reformat it because my system is now dirty and it causes to slow my pc and internet speed. In fact my ISP advice me to do reformatting. If you think that i need to have an anti spyware,adware, virus, pc cleaner, ram booster etc to clean any corrupt files, IVE DONE THAT ALREADY. Now that i have back up all my files problem has occurred. My friend told me that i need all the software for my other hardware in order to function after reformatting. I don’t have the CD/software on my motherboard. I think Ive lost it when we move to our old house.
The only one i have is the user’s manual. My friend told me that i need to install AC97 Audio Codec driver in order to have a sound on my pc. which i found out is part of the missing CD.

How important is the CD?
Can i ran my PC without it?
Is their site which I can download it?

My motherboard is PM2M/PM2MP.
socket 478 Pentium 4 Processor.

Please need help..
