they’re not in my control panel all i have is admin tools. don;t think they’ve ever been there. run ver. 2002 win xp home sp 3

I’ve run the network setup wizard, I have folders set for sharing, and I have no trouble accessing shared folders on other computers in network, but my own computer does not appear in the list (not even on my own screen) I bought the Laptop used on ebay. It was previously owned by a private school and was issued to students…and I’m sure there are some security settings set somehow that is affecting this. At this point completely reformatting the harddrive and doing a clean install of XP is not possible because the CD rom is not reading any types of discs (that again may be from some security setting on the computer that I do not know about) Any help out there would be appreciated.

I tried playing Diablo 1 on my HP Media Center PC a1595d (running Win XP), but it always freezes in the mid of the game and out came the blue screen (driver_IRQL_Not_less_or_equal), and I had to force switch off the PC, and when i restarted it, there’s this message :

A bit of background : One year back this too happened and HP people claimed the motherboard’s spoilt, and changed it, but it happened again this year, I seeked the services of a PC tech, and he claims it’s a graphic card add on problem, and removed it, for a while it works fine, till it happens again.

So can’t diablo 1 be played on Win XP? Or I need to fine tune some system stuff to fit it in properly? Thanks!

I have been using the Maxtor manual, but nothing on my BIOS screen matches what the manual says to look for. When I exit BIOS it asks if I want to run from floppy or cd/ dvd? By then though, my keyboard won’t work. I tried to run their set up disk Maxblast but no go. I then entered my windows xp disk and it started set up. But then it had to stop, because i didn’t read the packaging and it was a windows upgrade and needs the full version of windows xp to setup. Now I can’t find any stores with windows xp they all have vista. Did I ruin my new hard drive? Or if I get a full version will Windows finish installing and then I can configure. I am new at this but installing the hard drive was fairly simple, especially since i was replacing the old one.

I just bought Windows XP, then i found out it was just the update! Can I download XP, then use the key that comes with my XP update if i can where can i get it?

If I use my restore disk to restore my computer to its orinigal condition, will I have to download new drivers? I dont really know what drivers do.

hey people …can any one tell me which file or software to use to read the files sam and SECURITY? stored in the folder windows>sysytem>32>config?? ….. sam means security accounts manager n most probably its the file which contains my password for win xp …..my win xp password is lost … most probably they r stored in any of these two files …..i have both 98 n xp installed …i dunno wat to do to read the files…..in wordpad n notepad …jus sm special characters appear…pls telll me how to search my xp password…..i llb really grateful to you ….. for this….

How can I change the boot drive letter on Win-XP?

I have reformated and re-instaled the OS, and it has made a great mess on my drive letters. Is there any way to fix it

I tried to change it under “computer management” but it refuses.

Please help.
If I want to start over, how do I go about setting it right? I didn`t have a chance to chose it during window`s installation.
C: = disk 1 partition 1 (system)
D: = DVD
E: = disk 1 partition 2 (boot)

what annoys me the hell is that the letters on a single phisical disk aren`t consecutive.

I try to install msn messenger but it seems there must be some kind of problem because i use windows xp prox64.Do you have any idea how i can upgrade my messenger?

I’ve problem with win xp connectting internet(web) using EI or FireFox but still i’m able to connect to skype,trilian or play wow.
But on the same Laptop (dual OS) i can connect to internet through vista with same modem(rj-45 cable)

Any suggestion to solve this problem win xp connection would be appriciated
