Problems with settings using IE 7 and Win XP?

Sunday 31 December 2006 @ 1:20 am
win xp problems

I am using Win XP and IE 7 and I have had numerous problems with yahoo mail and have tried and obviously messed up my Internet Options. Now I am still having problems with getting mail, (very slow to load) using DSL and if I do get to an email and delete or forward, it still doesn’t go back to mail. My settings are really limiting me now and I need help so that I can have more than one page open on line. Now I get a warning when I close a page. It asks if I want to close all tabs. And no, I don’t, but have no choice. Can someone please tell me how to set these again? Also, is there someway I can get better service with yahoo mail? This is driving me boonkers!! Thanks in advance. Jan

Wireless mighty mouse & windows XP; how to enable side-scroll ?

Thursday 28 December 2006 @ 1:57 am
win xp drivers

I know using 0000 as passcode the mighty mouse can be used in Win XP. Apple does not deliver drivers for the wireless version of this mouse, alas – so the mouse is detected as a standard mouse. Vertical scroll works, side-buttons are mapped to explorer’s Back function.

I am looking for drivers/software that would support the side-scroll function of the track-ball. Presumably it’s possible to reuse drivers from Windows-mice and tweak their recognition of the Bluetooth mouse
I do have a older iMac, don’t have leopard or Boot-camp… yet. Will consider that upgrade and snitch the files you indicated from that drive – kudos for the reply.
Mouse works on the default xp bluetooth drivers, yet does not support the side scroll. Please confirm the bootcamp drivers add this functionality.

Does Windows XP let you put in a password to protect just one particular program or file? How do you do that?

I know you can put a password on Windows XP as a whole, but I’m just interested in protecting one particular folder or file or program. Any way to do that without using an outside protection program?

I’m getting a new Laptop and I’m pretty sure that the operating system on it is Windows Vista. What is that and why don’t the new computers have Windows XP? What’s the difference between them? I’m seriously confused!

Asus (F8Sn) Recovery DVD, how to recover pre-installed Vista, after downgrading to Windows XP is unsuccessful?

Tuesday 19 December 2006 @ 6:28 am
win xp drivers

Hi! My Notebook is an Asus F8Sn and it is pre-installed with Vista. No CD or DVD installer included when I bought it. Only the utilities and Drivers for Vista, and the Asus Recovery DVD are included.

Now I am planning on downgrading my OS to Windows XP. I’ve already downloaded the required drivers from the Asus website.

Here are my questions:

1. Should I format all existing partition in the HDD before installing the win XP?

2. If In case my Windows XP (and driver) installation is unsuccessful or if I encounter some problems, and I would like to go back to Vista OS – Will the Recovery DVD be able to do that? To bring back my Notebook to its original situation as when I bought it?

Thank you in advance and I would greatly appreciate if you can also provide me some instructions on how to this as I have no previous experience in installing OS.
Thanks Phil S.

I think your right about the recovery partition, as I checked in Disk Management there are 4 partitions.
1-VistaOS (C:) 116GB NTFS
2-DATA (D:) 108GB NTFS
3- **No name** 8GB (Primary Partition)
4- NVCACHE 513 MB FAT32 (Primary Partition)

But if ever I install win XP, will I be able to distinguish which one is the “special partition” and which are the partitions that should be used for the XP installation?

Change the workgroup at win XP?

Tuesday 19 December 2006 @ 5:17 am
win xp installation

I’ve wrongfully type the workgroup at my LAN at the office. How can i change the workgroup (since the workgroup was set in the middle of Windows XP installation process?). The result is i can’t connect to the other computer at network connection, coz I’m working on different workgroup. I had to ask this here, cause there’s no computer assistance or some kind of it right now. Thanks a lot
