Trying to install SATA hard drive?

Tuesday 23 January 2007 @ 1:51 am

This computer is a new, first build for me. And I’m in the process of trying to install Windows XP and at the same time, trying to get the hard drive to be recognized by the Windows.

Through the BIOS, the BIOS has recognized the hard drive, but I’ve been failing to get the screen to go to the “Windows Setup” screen, therefore, preventing me from pressing the F6 key in the screen. I’m pretty much stuck here, and I’ve got no idea what’s wrong with this computer. Here are the specs:

GIGABYTE GA-M61PM-S2 AM2 NVidia MoBo
LG 18x DVDR Super-Multi DVD Burner w/ DVD Ram Write
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD
Kingston 2GB (2x1GB) 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Mem
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+(65W) Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2
SONY 1.44MB 3.5″ Internal Floppy Drive
Atech Flash Xm-4U 11-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal Card Reader
CoolerMaster 600W Power Supply Unit

That’s the spec, and I’m pretty sure there’d be no hardware conflict.

Can you downgrade Windows Vista laptops to XP Professional without being blocked?

Sunday 21 January 2007 @ 4:42 am
win xp drivers

My friend is getting a new Laptop, and does not want Vista. I just want to me sure that I won’t go through all the work getting XP on, just to find out the Laptop won’t accept it, or will need drivers that are only available for Vista.
It is a Dell Laptop:

1.76 Ghz processor
512 MB – 1 gb RAM

I want to completely format the hard drive and install XP.

Computer History/Humor with John Cleese

Saturday 20 January 2007 @ 10:44 pm

Here’s a bit of computer history and humor with one of Compaq Computer’s ads. Compaq was trying to show its computer was compatible with IBM’s personal computer.

The ad showcases John Cleese comparing the Compaq Computer with a dead fish. See if you get the connection… and the dry humor.

win xp drivers

Can anyone teach me how to block sites by using Hosts File in Win XP? I have WiMAX connection. The information about my net connect is the following:

Device Type : Canopy Lite – 5.7GHz – Subscriber Module – 0a-00-3e-fa-81-fc
Software Version : CANOPY 8.1.5 SM-DES
Software BOOT Version : CANOPYBOOT 1.0
Board Type : P10
FPGA Version : 111306
PLD Version : 9
Uptime : 06:28:09
System Time : 21:49:42 01/12/2001
Ethernet Interface : 100Base-TX Full Duplex
Antenna Polarization : Vertical

Please note that I have tried this way to block the sites. I went to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
There was a file “hosts”, I right clicked on that and selected open or ‘open with’. From that window, I selected Notepad. I then I just added the IP address I wanted to block, after saving when I checked it in EI, it was not blocked.
