Wireless network works, but my internet connection doesn’t! Help!

Monday 9 April 2007 @ 8:40 am

I have a Laptop and a home wireless network. My Laptop connects to my network just fine (lets me view the shared drives, etc), but I can’t get the internet connection to work. It worked fine until this morning, it just stopped working. I’ve tried reinstalling the wireless card drivers, deleted the wireless card and let windows reinstall it, deleted my wireless connections in windows and let them reinstall themselves… nothing seems to work. I can’t figure it out (I’m fairly fluent with networking and fixing other PC problems). It’s obviously not a hardware issue because it lets me connect, so there’s something in the software that’s conflicting. Also, when my windows is booting, at the windows Welcome screen in windows XP, I now hear the “windows hault” error sound, like a program crashed in the background or something. I’ve had task manager open when this happens, and can’t seem to find anything out of the ordinary. Also, I’ve checked through the msconfig startup files, and everything is as it should be, same setup that has worked flawlessly for years. I don’t know what caused this problem, but it’s driving me nuts!! help!! lol.. any suggestions would be appreciated! Cheers.
I forgot to mention… I had already tried rebooting my cable internet modem and my belkin 54g router. As well, I’ve done virus scans and spyware scans, still nothing. It’s not a hardware problem with my router or ISP. Also, I tried to connect to my neighbour’s router (his wireless isn’t password protected, lol), and I get the same thing… it lets me connect, but the internet connection doesn’t work. :S Signal strength is good on both networks, just wireless won’t work.. my 3 other desktops on my network work great, only the wireless failing… :(

After the first installation of Win XP pro, I can no longer install office. Does anyone know how to do it?

win xp installation

ok, I bought the full version of xp some time ago. In the first installation I had office, which included word, outlook and frontpage among others. But now this is the 3rd time I’ve had to reinstall windows for various reasons, and I can no longer install those programs, much less find them on the master cd. They HAVE to be there, does anyone know of a way to find them or unlock them?

How to repair Windows XP using a second computer?

Thursday 5 April 2007 @ 10:39 am
windows xp

I have a problem with my computer. One critical file of Windows XP has been deleted. So when I open the computer I get the blue screen.
The problem is thet I don’t have a CD Rom on this computer so I can’t use the Windows CD to repair it.

But I have a second computer that is working fine.
So, I was wondering if somehow I can use the second computer to repair the other one.
Is there a way to do this?

Why won’t my clean installation of XP work?

Wednesday 4 April 2007 @ 9:54 pm
win xp installation

I deleted all the files and saved everything I needed to a seperate disk. Then, I restarted my computer with Windows XP disc and pressed Enter when “Press any key to boot from CD” came up. Instead of going to Windows Setup, it tried to start Windows. Then it restarts all over again and I have to do the process again. Why won’t the setup work?

Is anyone else having problems connecting a Linksys WMSM54G print server to a HP PSC1510?

Wednesday 4 April 2007 @ 4:39 pm
win xp drivers

I have a desktop using Win XP SP2, a Laptop running Win Vista, a Linksys WRT54G router, and a Linksys WMSM54G print server. My wireless router works fine for both computers. When I connected the Print server I was able to only get the Laptop to connect to the print server. The desktop won’t allow the network driver for the printer to be installed from Linksys install disk. It just hangs and does nothing. I’ve removed all the HP drivers and extra software and reinstalled only the XP compatible driver and still nothing happens. If I connect the printer directly to the desktop it works fine. With it connected to the sever I can send a test print from the server to the printer with no problem. Any help is appreciated.
