I have installed and uninstalled my Win XP version several times before (by formatting), so why does it give me the choices to load all these older deleted versions? When I try to load one of these uninstalled versions in boot menu, i get an error that some file is missing and the PC reboots. It wastes my time and there must be soemthign wrong. Can anyone help me to make my PC to LOAD DIRECTLY to the correct XP installation? Thank you.
To the first several posters: I simply deleted the partition after booting from the Win XP disc. Is that the “quick” format? Is there any other way to format the partitions?
To the last two: thanks a lot. I did what you recommended. There were four such lines under “operating systems”, and the “default” line contained one of them. I deleted the other two lines that did not match default, and not it shows only two at boot selection. However, the two lines that I left are the same, with the only difference that one of them contains “n” at the end (…/fastdetect n). I’ve tried booting from both of them at the selection screen, and both work and load to the same installation of XP. I’m confused.
BTW, assigning a 0 to timeout works perfectly. But I still want to leave only one line in “operating systems”.
Nevermind guys, I’ve deleted one line and left the other one. I figured that if both boot to the same OS, then one is unnecessary. I deleted the one on the bottom with the letter “n” at the end.
