I am trying to decide whether to get a Laptop (specifically an HP Laptop) installed with Windows XP Pro (more expensive and more complicated) or with Windows XP Home (less expensive and easier) then upgrading to XP Pro. Are there any problems with upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro generally and specifically on an HP Laptop? Are there any deficiencies or disadvantages (other then cost) with upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro as opposed to installing XP Pro from the beginning?
Most Laptops (HP included) available in stores come pre-installed with Windows XP Home. So, one question is whether to go with one of these units and upgrade to Windows XP Pro, or is it better to say go to the HP website and get a unit with XP Pro pre-installed. Which choice is better and why is it better?

I have an Asus A3500N Laptop. I need to reinstall windows xp on it but I can’t find the drivers for win xp on the official site of Asus. My plan is to make a backup of all existing drivers on the Laptop before formatting it.
Do you know a good software that i can use to back up the drivers and restore them after fresh install of xp?
Thnx friends

I just built a new computer and installed win xp, reformatting the whole HDD. But, when i try to get to the desktop and start installing drivers and whatnot, its asking me for a password to login. I did not set a pass in the install process, so what in the world could the password be? I tried leaving it blank, typing password, typing admin, but none of them work. Anyone have any ideas? If i cant guess the pass ill have to find some software to “bypass” it.

My computer will randomly restart itself for no reason I can figure out. Most of the time when it does that it will startup fine but sometimes it will get to a certain part, usually “Checking NVRAM” and then it will stop. Other times it will say cannot start Windows because this or that file is missing or corrupt.
I’m running a 3.4GHz HT P4 with 1.25Gb DDR RAM and a GeForce FX 6600LE Graphics card with 256Mb of onboard RAM. My Operating System is Windows XP Pro SP2.
Last time it happened I actually got a blue screen with the string IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I think I’m right in saying that this has something to do with RAM but I’m not sure.
Also this seems to happen most when I’m playing games. I’ve checked for software and hardware conflicts and cannot find any. I’ve also unchecked the auto’ restart box in My Computer Properties and it still happens.
I’m at my wits end. HELP!!
