I am currently running a dual-boot Ubuntu/Windows XP system, and like the way that Ubuntu shows the mounted drives or loaded CDs on the desktop, updating them when drives or discs are removed. Is there any way to emulate this behaviour on Windows, either natively or using other (preferably free) software?
Essentially, the only thing on my Windows XP Desktop is the My Computer icon anyway, so this would save me a step every time I wanted to browse files.
my Notebook computer came up with vista installed, I tried installing XP professional on that. First of all I have booted the system from XP installation CD, during first phase of installation, I have opted to format the drive where vista installed and it was done successfully. When computer restarts after first phase of installation, I was seeing windows xp logo, and then immediately computer is shutting down.
It would be appreciable if anyone helps in resolving this issue and make my XP installation finish.
The CD which I am using is a OEM software pack of Win XP professional which I bought for 160 bucks from one of the online stores. I have used that to install in my friends computer once before. This copy was advertised as “Unlimited installs”, thats why I am trying to install in my computer as well. In the worst case even if XP is not genuine, the installation should go fine, and will ask me to activate.
Please help me
Appropriate answers would be greatly appreciated
My work members all have their own user accounts on our one computer but I want to know how I can add an extra password or a long sequence of words to my account. So If someone does get into my account with my password somehow it will come up with a new thing asking them for further password/sequence of words.
Is this possible on XP windows ??????
Any other security I can add to our precious work computer????
I want to be able to run Windows 95 on my Laptop that already has XP. I don’t want to run them at the same time. I should be able to just load it onto a separate partition and it will be like having two computers, am I right? I can just choose at bootup which OS to run? The 95 shouldn’t mess with my XP? The reason I want 95 is so I can play some older games. But if it’s going to mess up my computer…any tips? Thanks.
Missing drivers : Multimedia Audio Controller Network Controller PCI Modem Video Controller Video Controller (VGA Compatible. I have tried installing several times to no avail, I do have driver cd, however it is not working. Is there a place online where i can get everything i need, I have been to microsoft, downloads.com, everywhere. My PC has XP service pack 2,my friends hasn’t got a service pack. How can i upgrade his without him having to download the pack?
Did you ever have one of those days when your computer gets the best of you? Well,I did.
If I am logged as Guest all is normal (so I guess it is not a hardware problem). When logged under Administrator, even if I don’t run any program, the shut down happens 5-10 minutes later. I’ve had this problem with my desktop for the last 2 weeks, never before. This may be related to the recent installation of the BT Yahoo wireless Hub and all the programs that are installed automatically and that run on start-up, maybe conflicting with other processes.
How can I zoom in on the fault ? can this be a virus ? any utility I can use that could shed some light on what is happening there ?
I have an eMachine L4S5MG, 2.0GHz Pentium, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, with a NetGear Wireless USB adapter.
Thanks for all your help !
