Can i upgrade my computer to play new games?

computer upgrade

I want to upgrade my computer to be able to play games that have recently came out. Its specs is a Intel Celeron 2.50 ghz cpu, 512mb ram, Intel Intergrated Graphics Controller (going to upgrade but i dont know what to get). The OS is windows Xp SP2. Is it easy enough for me to get the parts and do it myself? any help would be appreciated.

You need at least 3.0 ghz and 1gb of ram and the newer games are going to start to be windows vista only games. And yes it is fairly easy but you need a little bit of computer experience to change out the Ghz.

Cpu you need a dual core at least. then i would say 2gigs ram at least preferably around 4. and probably something like
for a cheap video card that will play them on medium.

Well all that seems to be from an old computer.
To answer you last question , yes it is quite easy, mostly its just plug in slot routine.

But since you have an old computer, upgrading would mean a new motherboard and all the fixings, so it probably will be cheaper to buy a new computer.

If you are still wondering about parts, and know you computer and hold them, then you need:

1gb of ram, 2 is nice, but check for compatabilty.

Atleast a 256mb GPU (graphics card)
(check for your motherboard’s PCI slots)
(look it up on wikipedia, PCI should be a white slot with no clips, and you might already have a dial up modem installed in one. PCI-E has a clip next to it, most graphic cards today use this. There is AGP, but those are less common.)

but this is most games from 2004-07 on lower settings. If you want to play newer games, just get a new computer.

It would be easier to suggest if you also posted any info about your motherboard. But basing on the info posted at the intel website, your celeron processor runs on an old chipset, my guess is the old intel 875P chipset..so if this is true then your limited to upgrading to single core Pentium 4’s…

If your motherboard chipset is either between the intel 915 or 945 chipset then you can use the dual core or core 2 duo 2160 processor..

Upgrade your memory to at least 1gb..and get some video card..which would still depend on the motherboard your using..to be on the safe side, a 7600gt would be nice..or a 7800 or even a ati 1900xt..

check your motherboard first…go to the manufacturer’s website and look for info regarding the supported processor, memory, and video card.
