My video card has both a DVI and a VGA port. My monitor’s connected through DVI. Can I add a second monitor to the unused VGA port and will Windows XP recognise it as a second monitor?
It did work, you’re right. 10 points for you!

I dont get any signal when I switch my monitor to digital input. The windows properites says I can have dual monitors, do I need to switch to the second monitor for the DVI-D output? Really driving me nutz someone help me. My card is a Raedon X300 and the monitor is samsung 960BW. Both have DVI-D, and the DVI cable is dual link. Should it be single link? I dont know the difference.

I tried hooking it up to my tower(which is a Sony Vaio and has a DVI input on the back) but I didn’t see anything on my screen. I unhooked the DVI and hooked it up with the analog and now it works. I have a nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 video card and I just updated the driver and tried using the DVI but it still wouldn’t work!!! How much of a difference would using a DVI instead of analog make? Also,my monitor says the best resolution is 1680×1050 but when I go into Display Properties and then Settings,it jumps from 1600×900 to 1600×1024 to 1600×1200 to 1920×1080 to 1920×1200 to 1920×1440 to 2048×1536. No 1680×1050 in sight!!! Oh,this is all on Windows XP.

Acer Aspire E560 Pentium D915 2.8 GHz,Nvidia GeforceGo 7500LE 128mb Came with windows vista premium,so given the hugeHD and its 64bit compatibility,I decided to install windows xp pro64bit on a completely separate drive, when I got to the windows xp I had a graphic card detection problem, so I installed a 64bit nvidia driver from their site. However On restarting after the driver install I decided to go into bios and I changed some display startup hardware option like from vga to igb or something like that, continued into windows no problem,PC now recognized graphic card exactly to the model, everything(display)worked fine until I had to restart after installing some security updates, this time no display on monitor at all,all I get is one long beep, then two short ones then black screen all the way.I know windows is still running because you can hear the startup sound.Checked everything(except opening up pc),tried different cables(s-video,vgablue,dvi) different monitors no solution. help!
it wont even show BIOS! shows nothing at all

Will a widescreen monitor (max. res = 1440×900) work with a PC w/ Windows XP only using a ‘RGB’ input?? I know if a machine has a DVI output the computer can detect what a monitor’s max resolution is….. but does the same apply to just using a RGB cable??

Anyone else have this problem with a ASUS v9180 (GeForce 4 MX440) when trying to boot up Windows XP on a LCD monitor?
My drivers are all up to date.

Trying to figure out if it’s my monitor or Video Card. I normally have to shut both down for a little bit and then it will be fine. Problem is that I always have to do that. One time it didn’t come up, so I tried the second DVI port on the video card, then the screen showed up. So I thought it was that port. But then it happened again, so I tried a different DVI cable, then the screen appeared, so I thought maybe the cable. But it’s still happening! I am going to try a different monitor, but just wanted to see if others have run into this in the past, if it might be my video card itself. It’s a GForce 7950, PCI-E, I just updated the drivers for it.
Thanks for suggestions. Ithought that maybe it was over-heating, (I do live in Vegas, and it’s hot in my office) but this morning it happened when I first turned the computer on. It’s not over-clocked, but I’m wondering if there is a setting somewhere to turn down the speed? Not sure where. This issue has been happening for a couple of months now, and I’ve updated the drivers twice. It doesn’t even show the initial mobo splash screen, which should load before Windows drivers, so I’m sure it’s not drivers. I’m thinking it’s the card

I’ve just installed my new Ati Radeon 9600 graphics card and hooked up my LCD display to the VGA port, and my LCD projector to the DVi port via a DVi to VGA adapter.
The problem is i can’t seem to find any setting anywhere in windows or on the ATI setting to enable the second monitor output. All i can get is the normal output on the LCD monitor.
Help ?
What i want, is to be able to switch between the LCD monitor and the projector for surfing the net, playing games, or watching DVD.
Any ideas?
