I’m just looking into college courses and came across these two. My guess was that Applied computing is more practical and computer science is more theoretical? Also if I was looking to veer towards games programming which would be a better choice?
Thanks

What is the computing term for memory that is randomly placed after each refresh / load?

computing

Like on some flash games, if you do a memory scan for a specific value and you find it. If you reload the game or refresh your browser the address for that value will now be completely different. Most programmers will do this to help prevent hackers from making trainers / cheat devices.

What i’m wanting to know is what is the computing term for memory address’s that are randomly placed after each refresh / start-up ?

How does Microsoft search for drivers?

Sunday 14 March 2010 @ 1:15 am
microsoft drivers

I have a device that needs a driver. When I click on “update driver” it asks me if it can search the Internet. Then it goes away for ten minutes and doesn’t tell me what it is doing. Then it fails and tells me that my nonexistent driver is the best and most up to date driver.

What database is it searching during this time? What kind of crummy database takes ten minutes to return “record not found?”

I would like to see the partial matches that it discarded. Is there a published API for performing this driver query?

What is a good XML Parser to use on Win XP?

Wednesday 23 December 2009 @ 12:15 am
win xp

I have used the java, python and perl parsers in the past. I tend to format quiet often and find it a schlep to reinstall the java, python or perl run enviroment each time. Is there perhaps a simple Win based parser for XML that I can use on the fly ?
