I am no computer programmer, so give me the simplest answer you can on how to run a batch file on windows XP.
A twip (loosely from twentieth of a point) is a typographical measurement, defined as 1/20 of a typographical point. One twip is 1/1440 inch or 1.7639 µm when derived from the PostScript point at 72 to the inch, and 1/1445.4 inch or 1.7573 µm based on the printer’s point at 72.27 to the inch.
[edit] Twips in computing
Twips are the default unit of measurement in Visual Basic (version 6 and earlier, prior to VB.NET). When in Microsoft Windows “small fonts” mode, 15 twips are equal to one pixel. 1cm is equal to 567 twips.
Twips are also a commonly used unit with Symbian OS bitmap images.
(if device independent is the advanage then what does it mean(how can it be device independent if it is depends on the resolution??))
i used tc++ compiler to write c programs on win9x pc. now, i have an xp m/c. will my old compiler work without real dos mode?
I own a hotel, and I do not want my guests to be able to access Control Panel, Run, and other menus. By menus I mean Internet Options in IE, and things like that. Make it easy please.
Response to first 2 answers: That is not what I mean. A limited user can still access Run, Control Panel , and things like that. Thanks for trying, though.
I have two scanners and a Creative Webcam attached to my PC. I am trying to write a raw image capture driver to grab images from one or any of them. I am able to get a list of cameras and all of that and create a device and even get status, but I try to do a RawReadData and I either get an error or no data returned. I suspect that I have to issue a command before I do this, but I can’t find any documentation about the vendor-specifc (or generic) commands.
For the application that I am creating, I don’t want to use central push, but it doesn’t matter unless I can grab data. Are the commands documented anywhere?
I’ve already gotten the DDK and have looked at the documentation on RawReadData. I’m calling *that* function properly. I’m just getting no data (on the Webcam) or the function is returning a “Not Ready” error (on the scanner). I suspect that this is because I have failed to issue a command that is required to get the device to respond properly. I don’t need Microsoft’s docmentation. I have plenty of that. I am looking for what I’ve left out. Documentation of the Vendor Specific commands or a short code snippet would be very helpful here. I am issuing Lock before and Unlock after the RawReadData call. I’ve even verified status as “Ready” (within a Lock/Unlock pair) in most cases. This isn’t a case of RTFM. I’m actually looking to RTFM. I’m just looking for the FM.

I’m working on a C++ project written in MSDev. I need to grab an image from a Twain device, but don’t want the “Acquire” window.
On other words, once I know the image is right, I want to get snapshots immediately instead of constantly having to acknowledge a preview window.
If you have windows xp then you should know what I’m talking about. When you click ‘menu’ then ‘search’ there will be a character (either a dog, wizard named merlin, and other.) I’ve seen a myspace site in the past that had the Merlin character, so how can I add one of those characters (the surfing guy) to my site?
