I’ve gotten it a few times lately. Today I was trying to install some older software (1996) and got this message when clicking on setup.exe.

I have a computer that has Windows XP Media Edition 2002 service pack 3. It is receiving a few the error messages that some files are either corrupt or missing. I do not have the XP Media CD. I have the 25 digit key for it though. Can I repair it with XP Professional or Home Edition disk that i have? If I can what are the step by step directions?

I put a DVD in and it opens up with Media Center (I have Windows XP Media Center Edition.) If the DVD is removed while Media Center is still running, I get an error “Windows - Wrong Volume” that gives me three choices: Cancel, Try Again, or Continue. Clicking on any of the three just makes the error pop right back up. I can’t end the task. I tried killing the process tree and it tells me it’s a critical system task and can’t be terminated. Is there ANY way to get rid of this error without (a) putting the original disc back in, or (b) rebooting? It’s crazy that you can’t just cancel to get rid of this error!
