My problem is I reformatted my pc and put windows xp pro back on it as a clean install. Everything was fine, I loaded windows and was downloading all my software that I know works, drivers, and such. I know the hardware/software is all good to go because it works in Linux. Question is, after I installed about 140 windows updates, my computer gets to the xp loading screen and then goes black. The monitor stays green lighted and is fine, but windows wont boot. I have tried performed a repair on win xp but it freezes at loading windows in the windows xp disk. i have tried booting into safe (which works) and checking the device manager which is fine. I have tried restoring windows before the updates, but the restore fails everytime.
Processor: amd dual core athlon 64 x2 6400 3.2 GHz. motherboard is not a high end motherboard, 512 video. sound card, 4 gigs pc6400, 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, 430 watt power supply. Could this be the motherboard and processor conflicting? PS issue?
I plan on doing a HD check through safe mode and i plan on uninstalling every software I installed in there…… Any other options? ive tried reseating memory, unplugging everything and plugging back in…
thanks, that idea was next on my list…didnt want to resort to that…….but the other issue is, i cant get into the reformat, repair portion of the xp cd, it hangs on windows is setting up. you think uninstalling everything I installed would work and reinstall the software again? Would windows updates cause this because thats the last thing I did before this happened?
I flashed my BIOS and boom, there goes xp loading!
A friend of mine is having problems installing an external USB modem onto his Windows Media Center PC. The modem is a ZOOM 3049 56K V.92 EXTERNAL USB MODEM purchased from PC World. The modem is USB powered. After following all instructions and installing software / drivers he cannot get the modem to install. It wont even detect the unit.
Personally I am unfamiliar with MCE but have asked all the usual questions – Look in device manager (no modems are listed), does it detect new hardware when plugged into the PC (no).
He has tried his ISP’s helpline with no success and has also tried PC Worlds helpline, no success. Even resulted in returning the modem for an exchange.
I thought it may of been that his PC already had an internal modem that was conflicting but it doesn’t.
Does anyone have any “quick fixes” to this problem or even possible suggestions that we can try.
Please remember this is MCE and not XP home or Pro.
Sorry, model of modem was incorrect – it is a ZOOM 3090 EXTERNAL MINI USB V.92 MODEM
Will also add that no lights light up on the modem – I thought this would indicate a faulty modem but it has been exchanged for a new one and neither have lit up at all. The computer just doesn’t seem to acknowledge it exists !!!
When I turned on my pc, after it gets to the screen where it has Win XP logo with the scrolling bar animation below the logo, in a few seconds the whole pc freezes! the scrolling bar just stops and the HDD light is turned on. I cant proceed further. BUT IT WORKS FINE WHRN RUN IN SAFE MODE!!! Thinking it was a software glitch, i repaired windows using my setup disk but still the problem is there. Is it a hardware conflict??? The last time i used the pc I changed my monitor from a CRT to a LCD. I didn’t had the driver disk with me so I installed as a plug n play monitor. That computer session went fine, after i shut down that day and restart the next day this problem happened.. Sombody plz help!!

4.What program do you use to solve an integrity problem on a hard drive?
5.Whats the name of the path to create automatic system updates and how do you do it?
thanks
If I am logged as Guest all is normal (so I guess it is not a hardware problem). When logged under Administrator, even if I don’t run any program, the shut down happens 5-10 minutes later. I’ve had this problem with my desktop for the last 2 weeks, never before. This may be related to the recent installation of the BT Yahoo wireless Hub and all the programs that are installed automatically and that run on start-up, maybe conflicting with other processes.
How can I zoom in on the fault ? can this be a virus ? any utility I can use that could shed some light on what is happening there ?
I have an eMachine L4S5MG, 2.0GHz Pentium, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, with a NetGear Wireless USB adapter.
Thanks for all your help !
My Call Of Duty 2 Multiplayer game crashes on startup. It shows the main menu for the game for a couple of seconds an then it shuts down, saying the game encountered a fatal error. The game worked before but than I didn’t play it for a couple of months. I think it is a conflicting software problem. My computer is custom with 2 GB of RAM, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core Processor, nVidia 7900gt video card with Windows XP so I don’t think it is a hardware problem. One of the error problems said i could not execute language.cfg Single Player doesn’t work either. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I run windows xp. Plenty of computer. Never had any problems. It’s not volume or connection settings or hardware conflicts. What is wrong? Could it be my soundcard?
I have a computer of 124 mb of ram windows xp home edition compaq, i have no viruses or unwanted files, i have used disk defrag disk cleanup and the rest, but my computer is still unbelievably slow,it takes about 6 mins to load up, about 1 min 20 to load the internet, and the sound for the computer always jerks and jiggles, such as on windows media player, youtube and the entrance music for microsft. Also, my mouse moves slowly at times and sometime moves on its own! i have checked for conflicting hardware and i dont have any! please somebody help me! much appreciated.
My microphone (very cheap, its with a Logitech Webcam) for some reason will mute sound that comes from the speakers while it is recording. For example, if I had a song playing off my computer while my mic was recording, the mic’s output would sound watered down and muddy. Playing music from an external source (speakers, CD Players, etc) eliminates this watered-down recording, so it must be a conflict between some hardware, I would guess. This problem proves difficult for some important recording techniques, e.g. multitracking, imitating live recordings, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m running Windows XP Home, my mic is a Logitech Webcam (mic included, whatever you want to call a bundled mic), and my sound card is an ancient Creative Audio PCI card (I use it for the included MIDI port).
