Computer restarts itself?

Friday 11 July 2008 @ 9:39 am

My computer will randomly restart itself for no reason I can figure out. Most of the time when it does that it will startup fine but sometimes it will get to a certain part, usually “Checking NVRAM” and then it will stop. Other times it will say cannot start Windows because this or that file is missing or corrupt.

I’m running a 3.4GHz HT P4 with 1.25Gb DDR RAM and a GeForce FX 6600LE Graphics card with 256Mb of onboard RAM. My Operating System is Windows XP Pro SP2.

Last time it happened I actually got a blue screen with the string IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I think I’m right in saying that this has something to do with RAM but I’m not sure.

Also this seems to happen most when I’m playing games. I’ve checked for software and hardware conflicts and cannot find any. I’ve also unchecked the auto’ restart box in My Computer Properties and it still happens.

I’m at my wits end. HELP!!

PC game and DVDs not loading?

Tuesday 1 July 2008 @ 9:33 pm

I have both a CD-RW drive (D) and a DVD-RW (E) on my computer. I can play normal music CDs in drive D. But I cannot play any music CDs, DVDs, or DVD-ROM games (like my CSI Dark Motive game) in drive E. In fact it won’t even recognize anything in the machine.

When I click on “My Computer” and look under the heading “Type”, it has both “D” drive and “E” drive as “CD drive.” Is it possible that there is a hardware conflict? Should my “E” drive be listed as a DVD Drive? And if so, how do I fix this?

I have Windows XP.

New Computer Keeps failing?

Thursday 19 June 2008 @ 6:33 pm

I have two bran new xp pro disks, 32X & 64X Ive tried both and I keep getting major issues with my new pc.

When I first loaded it, it went fine… no issues whatsoever. My wife got a virus because X64 doesnt have much AV support, oh well… when I reloaded windows, however all hell broke loose. A few times, it gave me a BSOD on install, with no information on why. It would also say that it could not load a specific file from the disk because it couldnt read it, id hit enter to retry and it would go…
When the OS is finally loaded, it would reboot for no reason. Or a message would pop up saying that something had to be shut down because of an error. Generic Host Processes, and SVCHost.exe mostly. When it would come back after a reboot it would give me the recovered from a serious error, BS and tell me that I had a hardware conflict. I was convinced, it was either the hard drive, or the Cable, but I wanted more opinions, I havent tried a new cable/drive yet. Please give me advice
I didn’t even think to flash the bios… maybe that should be my next step.
It is an E6700 Core 2 duo, supposed to be bran new out of the box.

I originally thought HD because, it was having file access errors, when I thought about this more, my wife got something on there, and thats when everything started happening. So my first stop when I get home is to flash the bios, if that doesnt solve it… then Ill continue

Problem updating Windows XP?

Saturday 26 April 2008 @ 2:18 pm
windows xp hardware conflicts

I have Windows XP Pro, i upgraded from XP home. While using home and pro, I havent been able to use the windows update or microsoft update feature. Each time it gets as far as starting to install whatever the patch is then it quits and says “Cannot install update”. The program will go through the lengthy process of deleting the downloaded files then I have to restart the computer.
Oddly enough I have no problem downloading from the website and installing each update individually. That’s damn tedious considering there are a ***load of them.
Has anyone had this problem before?
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the Operating System. Checked all my hardware for conflicts, everything checks out okay so I cannot figure out for the life of my computer what’s the problem.

ICS can not be started due to IP conflict?

Friday 22 February 2008 @ 9:07 pm

Here is very simple thing which i think “Windows” is not allowed (For common Sense it should be allowed)
The description is as under:
I have a Laptop (WINDOWS XP SP2) with LAN connection with my server (having IP 192.168.0.1) AND i also have wifi hardware working properly (I am able to allow File & Printer Sharing)
I have second Laptop (WINDOWS XP) with wifi hardware (File sharing working properly).
I have configured both PC for P2P wifi connection. First Laptop is host and second is client.

Now i want second computer to use internet through wifi from First computer. When I go to First computer (ICS Host) and try to activate internet sharing for “Wireless Connection” There is error message “ICS cannot be enabled due to IP conflict. Host must have IP address of 192.168.0.1″. Now my server has IP address of 192.168.0.1. How can i allow my first computer to use that IP address (That is ridiculous!)
And i am on office network (I cann’t change server IP)

Will a cheaper video card be fine for my setup?

Friday 25 January 2008 @ 3:46 pm

Ok, all I want to do is install a second video card so I can have dual monitor support for my computer. I won’t be doing any major gaming or anything that would require too big of a video card for my computer.

My computer is a HP Pavilion m7570n. It is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. It does have a card for TV tuner support.

Here is the video card I am looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102735

While doing some research, I’ve heard that installing a second video card can disable the integrated one.

Anyway, will this work for me to get dual-monitor support and not have conflicts with other hardware?
The card I am looking at has a VGA, DVI, and S-Video out ports. There also appears to be an adapter to convert DVI to VGA.
