Recently I obtained a Windows 7 disk and I want to update my hard drive. Can I choose to wipe EVERYTHING from my old Windows XP and start all over? How can I?
How can I tell if the computer has the type of slots that I need to upgrade it in Ram and hard/drive? What type of slots am I looking for?
Thanks
In the past, I have seen Computers with Windows XP that have two partition. Some People like to have two partition, and others like to have one partition. I myself like to have one big C: Drive. So therefore one partition is ok with me! But why do some People like to have have two partitions in a 32 bit Windows XP?
I myself use the professional edition.
My computer is kinda of a old model It is a HP515n. It seems to be still running great The only thing I have installed in it is 1gig of memory. This is what I have on my computer now.2.3GHZ Intel Celeron Processor,1 gig of DDR-SDR memory,80 GB-of Ultra hard drive,64 MB of Integrated and extreme graphics. What can I do to make any upgrades or do I need to just invest in another computer?

My current Laptop only has a 50 GB hard drive and is slow and old. I would like to upgrade to a newer model and still retain all my old data. My Laptop is a dell model and I’m wondering is this possible or do I have to buy a new Laptop and transfer all my old data from my existing Laptop to my new Laptop?
Hey guys im running a completley fine version of Vista 64 but i want to upgrade to Windows 7 64 since i tried it out on my Laptop and i preferred it to Vista.
Anyway I have 1 hard drive split into 2 partitions, one been 70gb – 10gb free space (Windows Vista) and the other is 300gb – 60gb free space (Windows XP) so if needed i can move around some files to create some extra space.
I want to upgrade to Windows 7, because i have alot of important software which would take too long to re-install, but whenever i run the setup.exe and select upgrade it runs for a few seconds and the i get the error message:
“Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer”
and the setup ends, is there a way round this?
I checked the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and everything was normal in there, however i’ll upload the report, to see if you can find any faults.
P.S. I’ve tried 3 different releases now and all of them get the same error. Also tried burning at different speeds, different DVDs and tried installing from a virtual drive, and i still receive the same error. I also tried upgrading from booting the CD, it told me to restart the PC, let it boot into Vista and run setup.exe, which brings me back to my original problem =[
Any suggestions would be great!

I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled with Win XP SP3 and now DVD43 hangs my system when I had no problems before on the same system.
I have a computer that originally came with Windows 98. I used a Windows XP upgrade CD to upgrade to XP. It always worked fine, no problems.
Now, I want to wipe the hard drive clean. I figured I would use the original 98 Restore CD that came with the computer, then use the XP upgrade CD again after that. However, after I ran the 98 Restore CD, the computer won’t boot properly. The screen pops up as XP even though I haven’t done the upgrade yet, and then then the bootup fails and gives an error. It’s like it didn’t really format the drive and there were still remnants of XP leftover.
What do I do?
